The author, Colonel Edward Kenny, enjoyed a distinguished career in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and after, retiring as a full colonel in 1975. He reached a rating of Command Pilot and collected some 22 decorations. He won a Bendix Trophy for his first-place finish in the prestigious air races.
Colonel Kenny began writing in 1955 while stationed on Okinawa, winning first and second places in the Pacific Area competition. Although he writes stories based on his experiences in military aircraft, his favorite tales are the recollections of his childhood during the Depression era, an era whose hardships may have helped form his profound regard and appreciation for life's basic essentials.
The Colonel has six children and seven grandchildren. He is pictured above with his granddaughter.
