[An Historic Setting]

[Prince Edward County Illustration] Prince Edward County and the Town of Farmville are nestled in the rolling countryside of Virginia's heartland. The county was founded in 1754 and named for Edward Augustus, son of Frederick, Prince of Wales. Farmville was established in 1798 and has served as the county seat since 1872. Today these two localities form a vibrant, rural community with a unique blend of progress and tradition.

This beautiful natural setting provides many recreational opportunities for the outdoor enthusiast. Excellent hiking, hunting, and fishing draw sportsmen from throughout the region. Popular spots include Wilck's Lake, Briery Creek Lake and Wildlife Area, Sandy River Reservoir, and three state parks - Twin Lakes, Bear Creek, and Holliday Lake.

The Heart of Virginia Festival and Lee's Retreat are two additional area attractions not to be missed.

The Heart of Virginia Festival

The Heart of Virginia Festival draws over 25,000 visitors each May with a juried fine art show, elaborate crafts booths, festival foods, and live entertainment. The festival has been a mainstay of the community for over twenty years.
