BUTCH CASSIDY

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is one of the most entertaining movies ever made. First of all, one of the biggest attractions of this movie is its co-stars, Paul Newman and Robert Redford. These two men were at or near the peaks of their careers when the movie was released, and they gave fine acting performances. In the movie, the characters they play are brave and dashing, yet somehow quite human. In addition to its marvelous stars, the movie has an exciting, adventurous plot. It follows Butch and Sundance as they rob trains and banks, elude a posse, and go to live in Bolivia, where they continue their life of crime. At one point they even jump off a high cliff into a fast-moving river to escape pursuit. Finally, the movie depicts the life of crime--a subject that is often dealt with seriously in film--in a light and humorous way. For example, one morning, right after eluding pursuers, Butch takes time out to perform several comical feats on his new bicycle. And, of course, there is a constant flow of wit which adds levity even to grim situations.

TUTANKHAMEN'S TOMB

When the British archeologist, Howard Carter, excavated the tomb of the Pharaoh Tutankhamen, he discovered an astonishing treasure of ancient Egyptian artwork. The antechamber of the tomb was filled with furniture, statues and carvings, and chests containing beautiful objects. In the center of the antechamber was a golden throne with arms in the form of winged serpents. Near the throne were intricately carved alabaster vessels and life-size black statues, probably portraying Tutankhamen. On the mummy was found a gold burial mask. The dazzling mask was inlaid with semiprecious stones and glass paste. The gold burial mask was a perfect likeness of Tut. On the walls of the tomb were a number of magnificent murals, brightly painted in red, yellow, black, and white. The wall paintings depicted events in the king's afterlife. One wall showed baboon spirits of the funerary realm through which the dead king would pass.
