Parade Guidelines
Thank you for your interest in the 250 Years of Prince Edward Parade. The parade will be held on
Sunday, May 23rd at 2:00 p.m. Please note there is NO RAIN DATE. We ask that you be in your
place in the line-up no later than 1:00 p.m.
The line-up area will be on the Longwood University campus, and maps will be sent out showing
your entry number and line-up location. It is suggested that large groups assemble away from
the line-up area in the interest of safety.
Please remember and observe the following parade rules and regulations:
- We do not allow commercial entries which have entered for advertising purposes only.
- Decorate your entry according to the parade theme. We encourage period style decorations,
costumes, and music. Exhibit your 250 Years of Prince Edward by depicting a time period from
the 1700's to the present. Please make present-day representations appropriate to the
celebration of the 250th Anniversary of Prince Edward County.
- Please do not throw any objects of any kind into the crowd. This includes candy. You may
have members of your group walk along the parade route and give out candy, flags, flowers, etc.
- We ask that marching units that wish to be judged please time their performance accordingly.
Signs along the parade route will indicate the location of the reviewing stand.
- People with horse entries are responsible for cleaning their own trailer area. The parade
committee will handle clean-up along the parade route.
- Trophies will be awarded for winning entries in several categories.
Please direct specific questions concerning your parade entry to Dolly Childress, Parade Chair, at
(434) 248-5476, or Betty Robb Breen, 250th Anniversary Coordinator, Prince Edward County, at (434)
