Three-Legged Race

On August 14th, 2004, a community picnic was held as part of the ongoing celebration of Prince Edward County's 250th Anniversary. The picnic was originally planned as an outdoor event to take place on Wilck's Island in Farmville. Unfortunately, hurricane season was already upon us and the area suffered some heavy rainfall from the outer reaches of one of this year's many hurricanes. Instead the celebrations found a home at Prince Edward County School.

Some of the games available: Checkers, Races, Basketball Toss

There were many activities on offer. The YMCA had various types of races such as three-legged, sack, and spoon races. There were also board games like chess and checkers for those who wanted to match wits rather than athletic abilities. Some booths offered carnival style games such as a basketball toss to win prizes.

Pie-Eating Contest

One of the most fun activities for both participants and those who watched was the pie-eating contestants. Contestants could choose from Lemon Meringue or Chocolate Cream but both resulted in plenty of mess!
