On January 8th, 2004, Prince Edward County, Virginia, celebrated its 250th birthday. A birthday party was held in the atrium of the
Prince Edward County courthouse with plenty of cake and punch for all. This event marked the beginning of a year-long celebration during which many
activities have been planned. The Prince Edward County Board of Supervisors formed the 250th Anniversary Commission last year and appointed Lacy
Ward, Supervisor for the Prospect District, as chairman. Many citizens have become involved volunteering their time and ideas to the task at hand.

at the party and the postmark will be available by request at county post offices until February 8th, 2004. Also available at the party were copies
of the reprinted History of Prince Edward County, Virginia, by Herbert Clarence Bradshaw.

Signing the scroll for the time capsule
|
There were several commemorative items on sale at the party including an official souvenir booklet (including a historic calendar), t-shirts, sweatshirts, and
note cards. These can still be purchased at the Prince Edward County Administrator's office and on the website. There was a scroll at the event for citizens
to sign their name and add a birthday greeting if they wished. The scroll will placed in the time capsule which will be buried in December to be opened in
50 years.
