Events Calendar
Events are planned throughout 2004 to celebrate Prince Edward's 250th anniversary. Several will
be organized by the commission and in addition many regular local events will be incorporating the birthday
celebrations.

- JANUARY 1, 2004
Reissue of History of Prince Edward County, Virginia by Herbert Clarence Bradshaw
The Board of Supervisors of Prince Edward County proudly presents a limited edition reprint of this important and
thorough history of our county, from its earliest settlements and establishment in 1754 through its bicentennial
year in 1954. The book is available through the County Administrator's office. Call (434) 394-8837, or check

250th Birthday Party, Prince Edward County Courthouse Atrium, 4:00-6:00 p.m.
Join the citizens of Prince Edward County for birthday cake and punch as we kick off our year-long

- JANUARY 8, 2004
250th Anniversary Commemorative Postmark
Starting this day and lasting one month, county post offices will offer a special 250th Anniversary
postmark. The Farmville first-day issue will be available at the Birthday Party. Postmarks will then
be available by request at county post offices until February 8th.
- APRIL 30, 2004
Children's Creative Exhibition, "People and Places of Prince Edward County"
Premiere Reception, Longwood Center for the Visual Arts, 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Come to the premiere party for our month-long exhibit of the artwork and literary talents of our county's
school children, on display at LCVA through May 15th. Awards for these creative expressions will be presented

"250 Years of Prince Edward" Parade, Downtown Farmville, 2:00 pm.
Bring the entire family to this grand and historical parade. The colorful procession will include music,
lively marchers, and patriotic and festive floats representing our county's distinguished history.

- AUGUST 14, 2004
Community Picnic, Wilck's Lake, Farmville, 2:00 p.m.
Play games, listen to music, enjoy the outdoors, or just relax with friends from all over Prince Edward County
as we celebrate the summer with an old-time picnic. Bring your blanket, chairs, and a picnic basket with your
favorite snacks and beverages and spend a fun afternoon with friends and family. The county will provide
hamburgers and hotdogs. Admission is free. This event is sponsored by
MoonStar and ServiceMaster of Farmville.
- OCTOBER 16, 2004
"Past and Present in Prince Edward County," 250th Birthday Gala,
Fireman's Sports Arena, 8:00 pm.
Enjoy dancing, live music, and delicious food as the county celebrates its birthday with this wonderful event.

- DECEMBER 5, 2004
Time Capsule Ceremony, Prince Edward County Courthouse, 3:00 p.m.
Throughout the anniversary year, citizens will contribute items that represent our life today in Prince Edward
County. Join us as we seal and bury this piece of Prince Edward County history for our friends in the future
to open on December 5, 2054.
There will also be events held locally to commemorate the 50th anniversary of
Brown v. Board. This is significant in Price Edward County for the role played
by events at the Moton School
and is of great historical significance for the County.
